Rob Claxton Success Story

In recent years, the popularity of strength and conditioning programs has exploded. It seems like everyone is doing them – from professional athletes to weekend warriors. However, if you're like most people, you probably don't have the time to design your strength and conditioning program. That's why it's a good idea to follow a program that someone else has already created. But how can you be sure that the program you're following is effective?

Participating in a gym program is highly beneficial. Similar to Rob Claxton, the issue he faced before starting True Core was a lack of an organized strength and conditioning program to follow. Rob felt that he was plateauing at his previous Globo gyms and looking to return to a team atmosphere! He played several team sports growing up through high school and swam for two years in college. During his early tenure as a career firefighter, he played on softball teams, but that didn't cut it for the team physical exertion he was looking for.

Even though he was lifting weights and doing cardiorespiratory workouts, he was doing so in a haphazard manner that possibly impeded his progress. He was doing too many of the same sets or rep schemes at times and vice versa. Moreover, he felt that he wasn't being pushed hard enough in some of the workouts to get his desired results. It was a toss-up between being productive and being counterproductive.

His frustration stemmed from the fact that he was doing workouts he read about in a book, a magazine, or something a gym member suggested without proper guidance, which resulted in poor technique and a lack of appropriate range of motion for those exercises without the guidance of a coach. However, Rob had taken almost every class at his Globo gym and drew the line at Zumba. Rob felt that he needed more to come out of his comfort zone! Luckily, he spotted a True Core Crossfit sign-on Generals Highway back in True Cores infancy and pulled in to check it out; this was in the spring of 2015. Thus, Rob has been consistently doing WOD's with True Core since.

The changes Rob has gone through since joining True Core have contributed to his longevity as a firefighter. He is in his 29th year as a firefighter, not including four years as a volunteer. True Core has assisted him in avoiding the most common serious injuries, including but not limited to back strains and disc injuries. Reduced cardiorespiratory fitness, which he maintained and helped him increase his strength and fitness as he approached retirement from the fire department.

Rob's journey with True Core has impacted him both mentally and physically. His coaches and True Core athletes encourage him to complete a WOD that corresponds with pushing through a challenging situation or emergency at work! Rob has gained knowledge of strength and conditioning and mobilization, flexibility, and diet, thanks to the assistance of the True Core coaching staff. This contributes to a stronger immune system, which will aid him in his future health and wellness journey.
